My name is Polina Sizova. I’m a visual artist and illustrator, currently living and working in Barcelona, Spain.

I do art  between fine art and illustration, with a strong focus on comics and graphic storytelling. Throughout my career, I’ve worked as a commercial illustrator with music labels and publishing houses, as an illustration educator for a wide range of audiences, and as an independent artist and writer.

This series began when I was forced to leave my home
and had to unpack the suitcase of emotions I carried with me.
It was an overwhelming experience for me — and at the same time it was clear that thousands of other people were going through something similar.
All memories suddenly lose their footing, it becomes impossible to reach the familiar.
You open your eyes and find yourself suspended in a pulsating, frozen space;
you close them and can grow roots into your place in the new world.

At some point, out of scattered fragments of memory appearing in the airless space behind closed eyelids,
it becomes possible
to assemble something
to lean on — something like
a home, something like your own inner world, a place
you retreat to in order to rest and remember who you are.
